OVERNIGHT SELF CLAIMED PRESIDENT, CONTROVERSY IN NYCN

Gentlemen of the press let first use this opportunity to welcome you all to this World Press Conference and equally appreciate you all for your prompt response to our invitation despite short notice.
As you are all aware the National Youth Council of Nigeria is the only recognized apex youth organization in Nigeria that encompasses other youth groups, societies, unions, and councils.
Our co-compatriots in the fourth estate of the realm, there was an initial attempt for our national congress to hold in October/November 2015 but due to some challenges, the congress was indefinitely postponed. One of the actions we unanimously took to curb the challenges was to set up a caretaker committee to run the affairs of the council until we have an elective congress where the Executives shall be democratically elected. The Caretaker Committee led by my humble self put all the necessary machinery in place and in deed prepared the Council to another congress slated for August 25th to 27th 2016. The Congress was however, after due consultations with the National Transition Committee , ELECO and Congress was postponed by the Ministry of Youths and Sports (through a Letter/Notice of postponement dated 24th of August 2016) whose responsibility is to play supervisory roles to all of NYCN’s activities. For the trust and believe we have in the Ministry especially in this dispensation, we all came together and stood behind the ministry’s decision and urged our members to maintain peace and order as we await a new date to be announced.

It is unfortunate that one individual aspiring for the position of President of the NYCN by name Murtala Garba, along with some of his supporters, not only illegally announced the dissolution of the Caretaker Committee that is officially recognized by the Ministry of Youth and Sport as well as the rest of the union, but he went ahead and declared himself illegally as the new caretaker chairman of the NYCN and going round the country extorting the general public as the President of the Council.
We are particularly concerned with the interference in the affairs of the Council by the following:
Office of the Secretary of Government of the Federation (SGF):
The power of this honorable office is allegedly abused by some individuals who have exhibited some high handedness and by showing unexplainable interest in the affairs of the NYCN. Those particularly in question are Mr. Gideon Sammani, Senior Special Assistant Political to the President, SGF’s Office and Ayuba Special Assistant Political to the President, SGF’s Office imposition. These individuals have helped paraded Murtala Muhammad Garba as the ordained presidential aspirant of NYCN for the presidency and this ploy has benefited Murtala Muhammad Garba and his team financially. We hereby call on Mr. David Babachair the Secretary to the Government of the Federation to check these individuals and take disciplinary action against them as their role in promoting disunity and impunity in the Council cum rubbishing the present administration fight against impunity and corruption. And equally to change the perception of the Nigerian Youth against the Office of the SGF.
Office Inspector General of Police (IGP):
While the Ministry of Youth and Sports issued a circular announcing the postponement of the elective congress of the NYCN, most delegates of the NYCN complied with this but Murtala Muhammad Garba claimed he got an order from the Office of the Inspector General of Police through the Commissioner of Police Abuja, for the venue of the congress to be opened. This is where they made the announcement of dissolving the recognized caretaker committee and perpetuating this illegality without due process. We believe that the Inspector General’s office must have been misled or misinformed by some entities to have given the order.
Office of the Wife of the President:

Some Staff of the Office of the wife President most especially her Senior Special Assistant Hajiya Hajjo Sani has indicated interest in the affairs of NYCN, particularly in the candidacy of Murtala Muhammad Garba over other candidates by sending him to the Governor of Kano State, where she recommended him for the presidency of NYCN through. We call on the First Lady is the mother of all Nigerian Youth to call these people to other.
His Excellency, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje (Executive Governor of Kano State):
The Kano State Governor has not only showed some level of partisan in the affairs of the Council but he is also the sole financier of this illegality been perpetuated by Muritala and his co-horts through his Commissioner of Youth and Sport. We wish to use this opportunity to inform His Excellency Alhaji Abdulahi Ganduje that Muritala and his co-horts are illegally parading themselves as the new leadership of the council and call on His Excellency to stop identifying with these impostors.
We call on the management of the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sport to wake up to its responsibility by calling this impostor to order and equally informed all necessary quarters on the recent happening in the Council.
Based on the interest the First Lady is showing in the affairs of the nation we call for the reinstatement of the Office of the First Lady to give more her opportunity to contribute positively to the development Nigerian Youth and Country in general.
We appreciate the incorporated Trustee of the Council for their stand on the holistic way forward in resolving the leadership crisis rocking the Council.

NYCN UNITY CONGRESS 2016 in consultation with all the Voluntary Youth Organisations VYO’s affiliated to the Council, State Chairmen, Congress planning committee and Electoral Committee, the National Caretaker as rescheduled the 2016 Unity congress of the Council to hold from 9th to 11th of December 2016 at the International Conference Center, Abuja.
We thank you all for your attention.

Having gone through all this, i notice that a lot of want the NYCN done on their way. The reason behind it because they are familiar with people that know people that could push them in. Also, the NYCN can only stand and reign if only it be done on purpose why it was created. To run the affairs of NYCN, you need trust worthy, honest, understanding, focus minded leader that would made the affairs open to people not be government for myself and myself alone. The man going about can not lead this affairs of NYCN for long, it will crash and the purpose why it was created would not stand. They need a visionary leader that would serve not because he know President wife but because he want the best of the NYCN to be seeing by all. Thank you
